This accelerated test determines the relative resistance of steel pipeline coatings to abrasion through the circulations of a slurry of coarse abrasive and water. The method is intended to apply to the testing of all types of electrical insulating pipeline coatings and tapes.

Coating test panels are soaked in hot water and the adhesion of the coating is consequently assessed by cutting a rectangle into the coating. The cut is then pried with a utility knife to determine if the coating within the rectangle can be lifted from the metal surface.
